Metropolitan College of York The Metropolitan College of York (The College) was a college south of London that was formerly known as the Westminster College of Technology. The college remained a college until it was disbanded as part of the London Borough of Hyde Park in July 2001. Until it was decommissioned in 2002, modern day students were largely independent in a single location, with a student population of some 32,000. History Pre-dispensed Michael Vane-Ponte was head of the college when it was launched in 1974, and he was also head of the University Board of First Lecturers from 1983. He was to become the first graduate president of the college. With the financial and artistic success of the City College of London, Michael Vane-Ponte was the most successful of the Harvard graduate and college presidents. The college was called the “White Standard Campus”. During the years 1987–1989, the building built on the south wall of West End Street was renovated on the site of the existing building and a new façade was completed. It was also to serve the University. The college’s architectural style became more sophisticated, incorporating elements of Gothic into modern concrete.
